Understanding Weight Gain

Weight gain is rarely about greed or a lack of willpower. Stress, hormonal changes, disrupted sleep, medication, periods of illness or inactivity, and difficult emotions can all influence appetite, cravings, and how the body stores energy.

Feelings such as loneliness, boredom, anxiety, or low mood can lead to reaching for comfort foods that provide a temporary lift. Over time, familiar routines, like eating in front of the television, or snacking during work breaks, can become habits without conscious awareness.

Many people try repeated diets, only to find the weight returns. When calorie intake drops too low, the body responds by slowing metabolism and increasing hunger and cravings. This is a natural survival response, not a lack of willpower. When normal eating resumes, the body often restores the weight as it seeks balance and safety. This cycle can leave people feeling frustrated and stuck.

Restricted Diet Symptoms

Many weight-loss diets can lead to symptoms such as headaches, nausea or light-headedness, low energy, sugar cravings, constipation, irritability and mood changes.  Whereas, hypnotherapy focusses on changing patterns around emotional eating, motivation and self-regulation rather than restriction.

Checking Weight

Supports For Weight Loss

As a Hypnotherapist and Nutrition Coach, I help clients address the subconscious patterns that influence eating habits, cravings, and their relationship with food. Together, we explore emotional triggers, reduce stress-related eating, and help you feel more in control of your appetite. You learn to manage portion sizes, feel fuller for longer, and make food choices that support steady energy and stable blood sugar.

We focus on practical, achievable changes in line with NHS recommendations. This holistic approach considers emotional, hormonal, and metabolic factors, as well as lifestyle influences such as hydration, stress, and sleep quality. Everything works together to support steady, sustainable weight loss, and clients often remark that they do not experience the usual restricted diet-related symptoms.

For those who have used medical weight loss interventions, hypnotherapy can provide support with the emotional, behavioural, and habit-based patterns that remain once medication is reduced or stopped.
